Taft Homes to be torn down, rebuilt

PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s Taft Homes are to be taken down and replaced with new housing.

The Peoria Journal Star reports The Peoria Housing Authority Board approved a contract with a Wisconsin-based developer to begin the redevelopment. The public housing complex is located just north of Downtown Peoria.

Vice Chair of the Peoria Housing Authority Alma Brown confirms they will relocate residents during the redevelopment.

The entire project is estimated to cost up to $20 million. The PHA will work to secure funding from state and local agencies.

The Housing Board will hold a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at the resource center in the Taft Homes.
