SPEER, Ill. — Tanners Orchard is celebrating opening day for its 72 year.
It’s still summer time and people are trying to get outside, hit the pool, but Tanners is opening up.
You can come and try samples of apple cider.
They’ve also got some apple cider doughnuts, apples, and several other things.
“We’ll have peaches and sweet corn, hopefully we’ll have some melons coming in. We’ll have all our products, our caramel, apple sauce, jams and jellies,” said co-owner Jennifer Beaver.
Jennifer Beaver is a third generation owner of the orchard. Her family has owned Tanners for 72 years now.
She says she loves what she does and is excited it’s time to open up again.
“My grandpa started it, I don’t think he had any idea what we could accomplish. It’s our family business, this is all we do. We don’t have any other jobs. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears go into this, but also a lot of smiles. We really enjoy doing this,” Beaver said.
Many people across central Illinois came for the opening on Monday, ready to continue their family traditions.
“We like going outside, and we like the food. We live super close, our house is just a couple minutes back there, so we always come here,” said Maggie Dorsey who visited Tanners with her family.
The family tradition of coming to Tanners runs strong for Stephanie Griffin.
“I’ve been coming since I was a kid. All the home goods, everything is all home made. It’s a lot of things you can’t get at the normal grocery store,” Griffin said.
Griffin says Tanners is a Central Illinois staple.
“Everybody knows about it. When I lived in the Quad Cities, people would drive from the Quad Cities to Tanners. It’s a special place,” said Griffin.
