Tazewell County hopes to speed up ballot counting with new routine

The new Tazewell County clerk is making sure everything goes as planned.

County clerk John Ackerman says Tazewell County has more than 130 voting precincts this year. The clerk says the goal this year is get voting results out faster than previous years. Election crews are out and about to make sure there are no problems.

“Our staff all volunteers to drive around in the morning and visit with each of them, and I’ve been taking the day myself to drive around to all of them myself and visit with them a little bit, thank the election judges for what they do and just see how everything’s going,” said John Ackerman, Tazewell County clerk.

Pekin’s incumbent mayor John McCabe is seeking re-election against city council member Mark Luft.
In East Peoria, John P. Kahl is running against Timothy J. Jeffries in the mayoral race.

Ackerman said the goal is to have the votes counted by 7:30 pm Tuesday evening.
