PEORIA, Ill. — A 17-year-old area teenager has been arrested for 28 burglary counts.

The Peoria Police Department on Friday said the incidents caused approximately $100,000 in damage to local stores and other businesses.

The PPD was called to the Walmart at 3315 N. University Ave. at 1:25 a.m. Friday and saw entry was made by breaking the glass entry doors. The suspect was captured on surveillance video entering, stealing some items, and then quickly exiting the store. Responding officers were able to recover some evidence from the adjacent area.

Detectives were able to identify the 17-year-old juvenile as the suspect. That person was later located and transported to the police department.

The investigation revealed, this juvenile and a few others were responsible for 29 other business burglaries throughout Peoria starting earlier this year. The collective damage of $100,000 does not include the value of the items stolen, police said.

The juvenile is detained at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. The case is still under investigation.
