Tesla proposal in Bloomington gets green light from Zoning Board

Local News

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a proposal sent in by Tesla to allow vehicle sales and maintenance on Wednesday.

The plan includes building the facility at 420 Olympia Drive in Ward 8 and will also service the vehicles. If the facility is built, Tesla will take up more than an acre of land at the Towanda Barnes Business Park.

In the project description, leaders explained the area could see a lot of shoppers and the Tesla dealership would serve customers with distinct needs without negative impacts on the neighborhood, adding the product itself produces less hazardous waste than traditional vehicles.

The Bloomington City Council will vote on the facility Aug. 12.
