Ducks now on sale for the 33rd Annual Duck Race with the Center for Prevention of Abuse

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Some in Central Illinois have the chance to become lucky ducks.

On Tuesday, June 8, the Center for Prevention of Abuse began selling rubber ducks for the 33rd Annual Duck Race.

CEO Carol Merna said this is the biggest fundraiser for the Center each year. She said they hope to raise at least $200,000 to keep their services free to those that need them.

“We don’t put a price on healing,” Merna said.

The Duck Race will be held August 28, 2021. Merna said they hope to sell at least 30,000 ducks by that time, and they will continue to sell up until race day.

Ducks are $5 a piece. There is also the option to participate in teams. The first 15 ducks to cross the finish line will receive prizes.

Merna said this is the longest running Duck race in the country.

She also said the fundraiser would not be possible without the team at the Center for Prevention of Abuse.

“You know, they live the mission,” Merna said. “Everything we do is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. But when you have a team that really rallies around the cause, it makes a big difference. And the duck race is no different. They pitch right in there.”
