The ducks are lining up and Thursday night they’re off to a strong start.
The Center for Prevention of Abuse held a kick off for its annual duck race. It’s a 30 year tradition that started as a fundraiser for the center. Thursday evening people had the chance to buy two ducks for the price of one, to help increase your shot at winning a grand prize of $5,000.
“We’re proud to be able to say that the funds that we raise all go towards caring for the people that come to us to live free from violence and abuse,” said Carol Merna, Executive Director of the Center. She adds, “100% of everything that we raise, selling ducks 5 dollars at a time goes to a great cause to care for everyone’s friends and neighbors.”
This year, more than 30,000 rubber ducks will race down a giant water slide in East Peoria on August 25th.
