Heartland Community College has a new program for nursing students. Typically students work on each other, classmates or teachers when it comes to check up evaluations but today they got a little help from volunteers.
The school’s president, board members and alumni of the program all lined up to get assessed by the students. Leaders say, its a great way to prepare them for the real world.
“We want our students to be able to have realistic experiences as students that we can’t always capture in the clinical setting,” said Jennifer O’Connor, Director of Nursing at HCC. “When we go to a hospital we get what is there and we take care of the patients that are available to us and those are very valuable, important experiences.”
Leaders say it started as an experiment for this year but they plan to implement it in the program for the future.
