The late Charles Crabtree is honored at Normal West’s basketball game

With the State Farm Holiday Classic tournament starting on Wednesday, its hard to imagine the organizers already handed out the first award of the tournament, but the recipient is a long-time friend of an area school.

Charles Crabtree, the beloved volunteer for the Normal West Girls Basketball team that was killed in a semi versus bus crash just weeks ago, was honored posthumously.

He would have been the recipient of this Volunteer Award but luckily his wife and family were there to receive it for him.

They were handed the plaque immediately following the Normal West Girls loss to Chicago Simeon on Wednesday.

“I am very humbled, very honored and love those girls,” said Charles’ wife Kathy Crabtree. “They played with heart as Charlie would say. Even when they lost they played with heart and they did tonight and we both, him above and me, are so proud of them.”

The Normal West Girls basketball team will play its next game tomorrow.
