BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Making that jump from Junior High to High School can be tough, so leaders at Bloomington High School are doing their best to help their newcomers feel welcome.

Before every school year, Principal Tim Moore hosts the annual Back to School Bar-B-Que celebration for freshman and transfer students.

The soon to be Purple Raiders, tour the school and learn all about their new stomping grounds before having lunch and playing field games.

“The hardest thing for kids to do is to transition into high school,” said Moore. “For us it’s an opportunity for us to have them in the school, one day, with nobody else here. We are giving them a chance to get used to class, because (when school starts) there will be close to 1200 students here.”

High School officially starts tomorrow for the BHS Students, for those who use Locust Street in the mornings, expect a little more traffic on your commute.
