Thousands of more people who are affected by disasters will now be able to receive hot meals thanks to the American Red Cross of Central and Southern Illinois.
It’s a story that’s making us Central Illinois Proud.
The Red Cross is donating a semi truck and trailer which holds a mobile kitchen inside of it. The mobile kitchen will be sent to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in Springfield.
The Illinois Baptist State Association hopes to bring peace, and a hot meal, to thousands of people who are affected by disasters.
“This type of tool allows us to provide comfort during a diaster. When people feel out of control, how am I going to provide? And we’re able to provide a warm meal that helps them have some comfort during a time of stress,” said ISBA’s State Director of Disaster Relief Dwayne Doyle.
“It’s going to help us be able to update and replace some of our aging equipment that we have. It will help multiply our capacity of serving meals. Right now we can do about 25,000 meals, this unit adds another 10,000 meals that we will be able to serve on a day,” said Doyle.
The mobile kitchen has already traveled to many states to feed those affected by disaster and plans to continue that mission.
