Three United Airlines employees were celebrated at the Peoria International Airport Tuesday for putting the famous “see something, say something” mantra to action earlier this month.
Steve Finch said he was working earlier this month when he saw an unfamiliar face using a computer behind the ticket counter.
It was the face of Ollantay Corujo, 37, who told Finch he worked for the airline.
Finch said, “I went and talked to him a little bit and was seeing what he was doing and he did show me a badge.”
But things just didn’t seem right to Finch. The next day he spoke with his coworkers Nick Allen-Stewart and Steve Schultz about it. The three employees got management to investigate the situation that same day which ultimately led to Corujo’s arrest from him stealing over $6000 dollars worth of meal vouchers.
Little did they know Corujo had been allegedly working throughout the year stealing meal vouchers from hubs in Boston, Milwaukee and Harrisburg.
“This is a really good example of how an airport community works,” said Senior VP of Airport Operations John Roitman. “We operate in airports where safety security that sort of things is job number one.”
The airlines says Corujo has stolen thousands of dollars in meal vouchers and they’re now calling Finch, Stewart and Schultz heroes.
“He was captured here in Peoria,” said VP of Ground Services Lynda Coffman. “That was just a testament to the great teamwork to the vigilance to everyone being aware and to the relationships here.”
Corujo is currently being held in the Peoria County jail on $1 Million dollar bond.
