PEORIA, Ill. — People around town brought old tires to a recycling event in Peoria on Saturday.
The Tireless Project event gives the community a chance to bring in old tires.
They allow up to ten tires for free, and each additional tire is just $1.
Collectors say its helped reduce illegal dumping around town and they’ve seen improvements.
Each event fills up a semi truck, bringing in about 1,000 tires.
“The real point and purpose of this is to allow the citizens that either have someone dump them in their alley or in their yard or just sitting in the garage or the shed for a long time, to have an avenue for them to get rid of them for free,” said James Kosner, the managing director for the project.
The next tire recycling event will be on August 31 at the Jimax operation building.
