Traffic changes will roll out in downtown Peoria.
Thurday, the city’s downtown advisory commission discussed changing one-way streets, to two-way streets instead. Leaders say they’d focus on Adams and Madison streets. Previously, the streets were turned into one-way streets to help with traffic flow the city says speeding has become an issue.
The committee also discussed adding LED lighting to Peoria’s Murray Baker bridge. A local group called “Light It Up” is working on donations for the project. The organization says local schools could light the bridge with team colors during games. The goal is to improve the city’s quality of life.
“Back in 1991 the region came together and did this as a whole,” said Ashley Schreck. “We’re gonna do that again, asking businesses and families to sponsor the lights.”
