It wasn’t just kids out in costume on Halloween, ringing doorbells. Hundreds of college students dressed up to canvas the Twin Cities for the annual Trick-or-Treat for Change.
Nearly 500 Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan University students participated. Students go out in teams to ring doorbells and ask for donations. All of the money goes to the McLean County Habitat for Humanity to help build homes. Students say they are happy to have the opportunity to give back to the community.
“Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan just together, just their mission which is community and citizenship and a lot of students really abide by that mission and really want to give back, any way they can,” said Samia Ahmad.
ISU senior Connie Garritano added, “I think it’s really important just because we’re living here for four years. It might not be our permanent home, but it’s just really nice to be able to give back. We really love Bloomington-Normal.”
The event aims to raise $20,000. Last year, it came up a little short, but organizers hope to hit that mark this year.
