Twin City teachers are being recognized for their hard work

Local News

Monday night Twin Cities school personnel were recognized for their work in pushing for equality and inclusivity in schools.

Not In Our School Bloomington-Normal hosted a celebration at Illinois Weseleyan to thank the local K-12 employees for embodying their mission, “Stop the hate Together”.

Over 50 employees were nominated and a little over 20 recieved certificates, and after the awards were handed out, the crowd split into small groups to collaborate on how to improve the culture in local schools.

“They (the teachers nominated) feel like they aren’t going above and beyond but they really are,” said Olivia Ruff, Senior student and Student Teacher Association at Illinois Wesleyan. “They are impacting so many students and I think that tonight is just one of the small ways that we can really give thanks to all the amazing teachers out there.”

Leaders say it’s great to see those in charge of teaching our future do more than they’re required to.
