Two people are injured, and a cat is deceased after an overnight fire in Peoria.

Peoria Firefighters and Paramedics responded to 1115 NE Jefferson Street just before 12:30 AM Thursday.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire in a window on the second floor near the rear of the apartment complex.

Neighboring residents informed fire crews that before they arrived, an occupant escaped the fire by climbing out of the window of the second floor unit and jumped to the ground. That person was taken to Unity Point Methodist in Peoria with a shoulder injury.

While crews were extinguishing the fire, other crews found a man inside his unit on the first floor. He was escorted outside with no injuries.

Crews extinguished the fire within 10 minutes.

The fire was confined to one apartment, but the complex sustained major smoke damage.

13 people were treated by Red Cross who helped provide lodging.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
