Peoria, IL– A variety of celebrations are taking place this Independence Day that will impact local roads and traffic. The Peoria Police Department asks drivers to plan accordingly for the following.
Fourth Of July-Firecracker 5000 Foot Race
The race is taking place Thursday, July 4, 2019 and will begin at 7:30 a.m.
The race will start in the 400 block of Water Street, moving north to Eaton and north on Eaton to Adams. Proceed NE Adams to Caroline and Caroline to the Riverfront Trail. The race will continue on the trail behind the Riverplex to the Gateway Building back to the start and finish line.
From 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., expect the following intersections to be impacted:
• 400 Water St.
• 418 Water St. (Parking Deck)
• Eaton and Washington
• Adams and Caroline
The 33rd Annual Red, White & Boom Fireworks
The fireworks display will be held Thursday, July 4, 2019 along the Peoria Riverfront at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Water Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from State to Eaton beginning at noon on July 4, 2019. The public is invited to bring chairs and view the fireworks from Water Street.
The Bob Michael Bridge will close at 9 p.m. and reopen approximately 45 minutes after the fireworks end. No pedestrian or vehicle traffic will be allowed on the Bob Michael during the closure.
The Washington Street exit ramp from eastbound I-74 will be closed from 9:30 p.m. until approximately 10:30 p.m.
At the end of the fireworks, Washington from Hamilton to Liberty will be closed to vehicle traffic for a short period of time to move pedestrians from the Riverfront area. Once opened for vehicle traffic, Washington at Liberty Street will only flow northbound and Washington at State Street will only flow southbound.
Water Street will be closed to vehicles starting at noon on Thursday, July 4, 2019. There will be no public parking available along Water. Free parking is available in the following parking decks:
• Jefferson Street located at SW Jefferson/Fulton
• Niagara Deck located at Main/SW Adams
• County Deck located on Hamilton between Jefferson and Adams
Beginning at noon on July 4, vehicular access to the riverfront will be restricted from Washington Street at the following locations:
• Washington & Hamilton
• Washington & Main
• Washington & Liberty
• Washington & Harrison
• Washington & Walnut
