Unit 5 School Board member David Fortner resigns

NORMAL, Ill. - By Patrick Baron, WJBC.

The Unit 5 school board has a third vacancy to fill.

Unit 5 sent out a news release seeking candidates to fill the board vacancy left by David Fortner. Whoever is selected will serve on the board until the next regular board election in April.

Fornter’s resignation is effective as of today. Unit 5 Director of Communications Dayna Brown said Fortner has accepted a position with his employer that is causing him to relocate to the suburbs of Chicago.

Fortner is the third board member to leave Unit 5 in recent weeks. Board member Joseph Cleary announced his resignation earlier this month after he accepted a teaching position at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Former board president Jim Hayek also resigned this spring, taking a job at State Farm’s Phoenix hub.

The board has 45 days to fill Fortner’s position.
