UPDATE: Woman killed in I-74 crash taught in Peoria Public Schools

She was traveling eastbound near Mitsubishi Motorway

BLOOMINGTON - Update (9/15 at 2:30pm):

The woman killed in a deadly car crash on Thursday taught physical education at a Peoria elementary school.

Rachel Dean, 25, of Normal, was a teacher at Glen Oak Community Learning Center, according to Peoria Public Schools spokesperson Chris Coplan.

Counselors were made available to students and staff throughout the day, and the district will send letters home for parents. 

In a statement, Superintendent Dr. Sharon Kherat said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Miss Dean. We loved her and she was a great teacher. We are focused on providing support to our students and staff during this difficult time."


A 25-year-old woman is dead after a crash on Interstate 74 in Bloomington.

Rachel Dean, of Normal, was pronounced dead in the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria shortly before 7:30pm.

She was traveling eastbound near Mitsubishi Motorway when her vehicle left the road, went through a guardrail and landed in a ditch. She was transported to Advocate Bromenn Medical Center, and then flown to Peoria.
