DUNLAP, Ill. — The Peoria German-American society celebrated Volksfest at Hickory Grove Park on Sunday.
The event featured a variety of German music, food and beer, and crafts. A German car show was nearby for festival goers to view.
“You go back to when we had the breweries and that, there was a huge German population here in town. And we’re just trying to keep our heritage and that going,” said Al Smith, the chairman of Volkfest.
Hundreds came out to enjoy a day at the festival and all that it had to offer.
The German-American society’s next event is a corn boil on July 21. The free event is at Hickory Grove Park.
