BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Back2School Alliance in the Twin Cities is making sure kids are prepared on the first day of class.
On Monday, several volunteers gathered to fill backpacks with binders, pencils, paper and other essentials.
Next week, the alliance is hosting its annual back pack give away, where 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given to kids in need.
Leaders say this event helps serve around 6,000 students each year.
“It is very important to have your kids at school on that very first day with all the stuff that they need and that excitement about their first day,” said Sarah Beerden, Legislative Team Lead for McLean County MDA. “We have the basics, and we just want them to go to school with their own stuff.”
The event begins at noon August 13th at the Grossinger Motors Arena.
