Washington family raises money for memorial park

WASHINGTON, Ill. — The Gordon family is working to create a new park in memory of two long-time pillars of the community.

The memorial park is in honor of their parents, Robert and Loretta Gordon.

The family is raising money to build the park solely on donations, and the community is backing the family’s effort.

At Kep’s Sports Bar and Grill in Washington on Sunday the family held a fundraising day and raffle.

The restaurant donated 10 percent of the day’s sales to the park fund.

The park will include a putting green, a small pavilion, and a children’s playset.

“My parents were so involved in the community and we wanted something to remember them by, and we wanted something that everybody in town could enjoy,” said Greg Gordon.
