PEORIA, Ill. — A woman is dead after reports of a large fight in Peoria.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to the area of Schmoeger Park around 4:24 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon arrival, officers stopped a vehicle leaving the scene and discovered a female victim inside, later identified as Charee A. Alexander, 19, of Peoria. She had been stabbed in the neck during a fight. She was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Alexander was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m. on Friday. Autopsy results are still pending. The following Monday, Harwood said she died from a single stab wound to the neck. She had no other notable injuries.
Several calls indicated numerous fights happened simultaneously, “spilling into the street and residential yards” on Thursday.
Authorities also located a juvenile male victim, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Harwood said this is the seventh Peoria homicide of the year. He said toxicology results are pending, but will not have a bearing on Alexander’s death.
The situation is under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673 – 4521 or CrimeStoppers at (309) 673-9000.
