PEORIA, Ill. — The 29-year-old woman wanted for the stabbing death of 19-year-old Charee Alexander turned herself in.

The Peoria Police Department said Jatara N. Johnson, 29, turned herself in just after 5 p.m. Tuesday without incident. Johnson was subsequently arrested on a Peoria County Warrant. She was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

Johnson then appeared in court and was indicted on charges of first degree murder and aggravated battery, a class 3 felony. Bond was set at $1,500,000.

During the course of the investigation, detectives gathered information that led to Johnson’s identification.

Alexander was not one of the two women who started a fight at Schmoeger Park in Peoria last Thursday, officials said. The PPD confirmed the fight started because two women were fighting over a man.

Alexander was stabbed in the neck during the fight, and was pronounced dead the following Friday.
