Peoria man allegedly hits elderly woman with hammer, marks sixteenth homicide this year

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — New details are released about a son who allegedly hit his mother in the back of the head with a hammer.

The 63-year-old Peoria woman, now identified as Theresa Ann Simmons, was found on in the 700 block of West Loucks on Monday, Aug. 12, suffering from severe head lacerations.

Police arrested her son Jeremy Simmons. Officials said Theresa died at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center on Saturday.

Police were called to the 700 block of West Louck Avenue Monday at approximately 5:56 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities said Theresa was found lying on the floor, bleeding from her head.

An autopsy is planned for Monday morning.

This is the sixteenth homicide this year.
