BLOOMINGTON – Women in the twin cities are standing in solidarity against assault.

The McLean County YWCA hosted “One Billion Rising” Tuesday.

The event is in its 5th year.

It’s a global movement to end assault against women.

Hundreds of women in countries around the world are rallying today.

One in three women around the world is assaulted in their lifetime… equaling one billion women.

Organizer Jeannie Higdon told us, “I come for myself. I have 2 daughters. I come for my sisters, my mothers, my aunts, my family, I come for everybody in the community to stand up for those who can’t stand up for those that can’t stand up for themselves.”

The YWCA along with other agencies in the twin cities are working to lower that number and empower women, offering services like domestic violence and sexual assault training.
