GERMANTOWN HILLS, Ill. — The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office said the male armed robbery suspect from a Monday evening incident is in custody.
Police officers were dispatched to the Ricky’s Mart at 409 Jubilee Ln in Germantown Hills after they received a call at 7:14 p.m.
The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Adam C. Wilson of Bayview Gardens, was reported to have displayed a handgun to the attendant during the robbery and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash.
Morgan Day wasn’t working at the time, but she describes how the cashier on duty handled the scary situation.
“I think she’s traumatized from it, we had a customer find her in the bathroom, instead of her calling the police, the customer did it for her. So, I imagine that it was pretty traumatic and upsetting for her,” said Morgan Day, cashier at the store.
Deputies used video surveillance at the scene and help from the community through social media to identify Wilson. They eventually arrested him shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday in Tremont.
“I think what he did, was he cased the place out before it happened. He walked from both sides of the store, looking in the bathrooms, checking the coolers to make sure nobody was here when he did that,” said Day.
Wilson was taken into custody in Tremont without incident. He is being held at the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office on charges of armed robbery and is awaiting his first appearance in court later Tuesday.
The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Bayview Gardens Police Department, Tremont Police, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Police.
The owner of the store says the scenario could have turned out worse.
“I’m very glad that nobody got hurt, and everything is fine, back to normal. My cashier was shaken up a lot but now she’s fine,” said Alfred Hinduja, owner of the store.
The store recently put a policy in place to deter would-be robbers.
We’ve actually had this sign posted for the last six months or so, it says the attendant doesn’t have access to the safe, and we don’t, explained Day.
