YWCA Mission Impact is holding a Fresh Start Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 11.

The workshop will be held at United Way, 201 East Grove Street, Bloomington from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Fresh Start is free and open to the public.

This event is intended to help individuals with criminal records seal or expunge qualified offenses. YWCA Mission Impact wants to give people a starting point and, if they are eligible for sealing or expungement, help get a copy of their criminal record, answer general questions and be referred to free legal aid.

“This workshop can help those with past offenses get a fresh start”, said Jenn Carrillo, mission impact director at YWCA McLean County.

Those individuals who already have an official copy of their criminal record should send or drop-off a copy to YWCA Mclean Country, 1201 North Hershey, Bloomington, or email a copy to ywmi2@ywcamclean.org. If paperwork is submitted by the deadline you may be eligible for free legal consult the day of the workshop.

If participants do not have a copy of their RAP sheet/criminal record, come and receive assistance in obtaining a copy. Although the workshop is free, there are costs related to the expungement process. Please bring a valid state ID or driver’s license.

Offenses that are not eligible for sealing/expungement are DUIs and reckless driving, animal crimes, sex offenses, and domestic battery and violations of orders of protection.
