PEORIA, Ill. — The co-owner of a local ice cream shop wants to clarify that her business will open its doors again soon.

Palarte Mexican Ice Cream, located in the Peoria Metro Center was reported as permanently closed Friday.

However, there’s a sign posted on the shop’s door saying “Closed, negotiating new contract.”

Co-owner Yuni Rodriguez said the news stunned her and she want let the community know it’s not true. Rodriguez said the shop is closed temporarily due to her being in the middle of a lease renewal.

“Palarte is temporarily closed right now because we are signing a new contract,” Rodriguez said. “We were [also] considering moving to a bigger location, but it’s going to open soon.”

She said the shop will remain in its same location and its doors should open again either Tuesday or Wednesday.
