The Pekin Police Department is celebrating a small victory after a nationwide contest.

Thanks to your votes, the department finished in second place, winning $1,000 in a K9 contest.

The department was given the check today.

Officers there are proud of the accomplishment.

“One of the most important things about this contest: what it allowed us to do is it allowed us to really engage with the community,” said Detective Mike Eeten, public information officer.

Eeten also talked about how supportive the community of Pekin was throughout the entire contest.

The money will be used for the police department’s K9 program.
