Voters approved the sale of Racoon Lake.
The 123-acre property in Hollis Township was closed in 1992 after traffic complaints. Opponents of the referendum wanted the Park District to build a new access road, but Park District officials say such a project would cost too much.
According to the Peoria Park District website, proceeds from the sale will be split between the district’s operating fund and a fun to support long-term maintenance.
