PEORIA, Ill.– All year long, Peoria International Airport has seen monthly records broken.
In June, the airport saw 65,919 passengers which was the largest number of passengers to use the airport in a month.
But that record didn’t last long, because here comes July, racking up 68,447 passengers which was nearly 4,000 more passengers than July 2018.
While August didn’t bring as many passengers in as June or July, it still broke the record of passengers seen for the month of August, which was 56,639.
Director of Airports Gene Olson said 2018 was the best year the airport has ever seen.
Olson adds 672,594 passengers arrived/departed from PIA.
But he says 2019 might take the cake. So far the airports’ total is slightly better than 3.25% above 2018’s number.
The airport has also seen great completion factors, or the percentage of scheduled flights that have actually been flown.
In May, airlines completed 99.1% of scheduled flights.
June and July were both 98.7% of flights completed.
August was nearly 100%.
The airport’s campaign ‘Go Global/Fly Local’ is showing the plus side to using Peoria’s hometown airport, rather than driving to cities like Chicago or St. Louis.
Olson says benefits to flying out of PIA are fast check-ins, short security lines, and free parking.
The airport also connects to 11 hub airports and multiple vacation spots.
