Peoria man hits elderly woman with hammer, court documents reveal

New details are being released about a story we brought you earlier this week. A 63-year-old Peoria woman, now identified as Theresa Simmons, was found on in the 700 block of West Loucks on Monday, August 12, suffering from severe head lacerations. The man officers initially arrested, Jeremy Simmons is allegedly her son.

The Peoria County State’s Attorney office reports that 28-year-old Jeremy Simmons is now being charged with attempted murder for reportedly hitting his mom over the head with a hammer, that’s according to an affidavit WMBD obtained Wednesday.

Simmons appeared in Peoria County Circuit Court Wednesday where a $750,000 bond was set. There’s still no word on an update to the Theresa’s condition.

He’s been charged with Aggravated Battery, a Class 2 felony, and Attempted Murder, a Class X felony. Simmons is scheduled to have a hearing on September 12, but it’s likely that date will change.

UPDATE:

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Hardwood reported 63-year-old Theresa Ann Simmons, of West Loucks Ave, succumbed to her injuries late Saturday afternoon, August 17th, at 4:54pm.

This is Peoria County’s 16th homicide of 2019.

Autopsy for Simmons is planned for Monday morning.
