Three Jesus statues defaced at Swan Lake Memorial Garden this summer

News

PEORIA, Ill. — Right around the same time the Jesus statue in Serenity Memorial Park was defaced, three statues in Swan Lake Memorial Garden were vandalized.

Two of the statues are located in the Garden of Gethsemane area of the cemetery. Those two statues’ heads were knocked off and have been replaced.

The last statues’ hands were knocked off; the stone fingers can still be found next to the statue.

President of the Swan Lake Cemetery Association Guy Saxton tells WMBD’s Matt Sheehan cemetery vandalism is common, but he says these seem like targeted attacks.

These statues were defaced in the first week of July; the same time the Jesus statue in Serenity Memorial Park was vandalized.
