Tire slash spree rolls through Peoria East Bluff

News

PEORIA, Ill.–Saturday morning multiple people took to Facebook on the ‘East Bluff News’ page reporting many cars’ tires had been slashed.

Peoria Information Officer Amy Dotson tells WMBD multiple reports were made on tires slashed on the 2600 block of Prospect and surrounding streets.

According to the ‘East Bluff News’ Facebook group, those streets are the 600 to 800 block of Maywood and E. Corrington.

WMBD spoke to neighbors who were surprised, unhappy and out of hundreds of dollars.

Many questioned what motivated the person or people responsible to slash tires at random.

Neighbors said they were woken by police as early as 6 a.m. Officers notified them about their cut and deflated tires. Only cars parked on the street were affected.

Sierra Walker of Peoria is a victim. Walker was confused and upset, realizing that this was going to cost her a lot of money and time.

“I still have trouble wrapping my head around why someone would do that,” Walker said.

This also left people like Sophia Westerman with an empty wallet and an uneasy feeling.

“It’s a set back money-wise, so now I won’t have money for other things that come up,” Westerman said.

Westerman said she’s paranoid, worried that it could happen again in the future.

“I’ve been in this neighborhood for a while and I think things are getting a little worse every day,” Daniel Anguiano of Peoria said.

Peoria Police are still looking for the person responsible. Some neighbors are taking precaution and moving their cars off the street.
