PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Chiefs have a nice history in minor league baseball.
Need proof? Look at the wall in the ball club’s office.
It now boasts plaques with the names of every player that has worn a Peoria Chiefs uniform and made it to the major leagues. That number is 201 and counting.
The Chiefs have been a member of the Class A Midwest League since 1983, first named the Peoria Suns. For most of their existence, the Chiefs have been a minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs or St. Louis Cardinals.
Yet 25 of the 30 teams in the big leagues have been starting points for former Chiefs in the majors.
