Former Cardinals, Cubs Play Legends Game

National Sports

Former Cubs and Cardinals players whose careers span seven decades took the field at the Corn Crib Saturday night for the Legends Game at the home of the Normal CornBelters.

The most impressive performance came from Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins, the 73-year-old Cubs legend who played first base in front of a near-capacity crowd.

Former all-time saves leader Lee Smith joined fan favorites Bill Buckner, Rick Ankiel and a half dozen former big leaguers Saturday, along with Central Illinois celebrities like WMBD Sports Director Kurt Pegler.
