ISU Coach Ready to Shed Crutches

Illinois State players are ready to play, Redbird fans are ready to cheer and Brock Spack is ready to coach.

Without crutches.

The Redbird head coach has been on crutches since a July 4 water ski accident when he ruptured his hamstring. His goal was to be off the crutches for the season opener and he plans on making reaching that goal.

“I’m not supposed to come off the last crutch until Friday. That’s a little too close (to the opener) so I’m coming off (Wednesday),” said Spack. “Hopefully, my doctor up in Chicago isn’t (hearing) this. I just can’t get run over for awhile. I’m not quite ready for that yet.”

ISU opens the season at home vs Valparaiso Saturday at 6 p.m.
