Bloomington senior-to-be Chris Payton is one of the top basketball players in the state, and is still looking for a place to play his college hoops. This summer will play a key role in his growth as a player.
“It’s huge, you got to realize what type of leader you gotta be,” Payton said. “You got to take a lot of responsibility being a senior. I feel I am starting to realize that, I’m start form myself into that type of player. That type of person.”
Prior to Payton’s junior year, he committed to Illinois State… But changed his mind in January and re-opened his recruitment. There are plenty of big programs looking at the 6-foot-6 forward.
“As of right now, I cant say there is anything I am looking for other than style of play. If that system is going to fit me and make me a better player,” Payton said. “And also, if the coaches are going to invest in me and make sure that Im the player that I need to be.”
But before Payton heads off to college, he has one more goal to achieve. Taking the Purple Raiders back to state. Bloomington finished in third place in Class 3A in 2016.
“It’s a lot to look forward to, a lot of optimism going into this season, especially with how last season ended,” Payton said. “Its gotta be a lot of preparation put into it, too. I think with the guys we have now, its gonna be a fun show.”
