Chiefly Speaking, Dee-Mack Hopes For Repeat Success

Boot Camp: Deer Creek-Mackinaw

MACKINAW, Ill. - They won the 2016 state championship. The school's first ever in football.

But the Dee-Mack Chiefs aren't quite ready to compare the 2017 squad with last year's.

"Now its officially August so now the first game is in sight," Dee-Mack head coach Job Linboom said. "So now it's time to really start fine tuning things and getting our technique and assignments down and things of that nature.1

The Chiefs were hit hard by graduation. Gone are star quarterback Derrick Baker and All-State running back Jared Reese.

But the roster includes 32 upperclassmen, including two-way star Hunter Mull.

"We've got another great group of guys this year, a lot of talent," Mull said. "Granted, we did lose a lot of seniors but we also have a lot of guys who got to play last season so they have their varsity reps and they definitely know what they are doing."

Dee-Mack opens the season at rival Tremont on Aug. 25.
