Conference Champ IVC Looking For Postseason Soccer Success

Grey Ghosts Ready For Regionals

Chillicothe - The Illinois Valley Central high school soccer team is relishing the opportunity to be playing in a conference once again... The Grey Ghosts joined the Illini Prairie conference this season and are happy to have a home.

"We haven't had a conference in a really long time. So to have the ability to come out here and compete, and compete against some really good teams, I mean, our team has been doing really well this year. It's all credit to the boys and the work they are putting in," Nolan Wilson said.

In their first season in the Illini Prairie conference, IVC went seven and oh in route to a conference championship. The grey ghosts are led by a prolific offense that has scored 51 goals this season, but coach Wilson believes the success comes from beyond the field.

"I think we have good team comradery. You know, we are able to pick each other up and all together we are just there for each other, so it's been good," Wilson said.

Postseason play is right around the corner for soccer, and IVC leading scorer Seth Crull believes that the grey ghosts can have a deep run.

"We got a lot of momentum going right now, so when we get into regionals we got a good shot of beating whoever else we have to play. Just keep trying. I think we can do it," Crull said.

Regardless of how the season finishes for IVC, Nolan Wilson knows his team will make him proud on the field... thanks to their hard work and how much fun they have playing the game.

"I think if we just do the small things and stay together as a team, we are going to put up a pretty good show in the postseason. That's all we can do, keep having fun and the results will come," Wilson said.
