It really doesn’t matter if Dunlap runs inside or outside.
The Lady Eagles are really good as they proved during the indoor track season.
“It really helps us for outdoor season because it gives us a chance to run, while the weather is still bad,” senior sprinter Alex Schaub said about the indoor season.
If their performance at the meet considered to be the equivalent of an indoor state championship (the Top Times Meet at Illinois Wesleyan) is any indication, the Eagles are ready to better their fourth place state finish last spring. They’re ranked number-1 in Class 2A to start the Illinois High School Association outdoor season.
“Coming into the season we knew we’d be good,” said junior Savanna Sullivan. “Once the rankings came out, we knew it was a huge honor. We know we have a large target on our back.”
Sullivan was added to Dunlap’s 4×200 meter relay team this season and she helped the Eagles set an Illinois Top Times meet record on March 25. Schaub, junior Aanise Sajna and sophomore Kiara Pauli are also part of that relay.
“We have a lot of goals,” said Sajna. ‘We want to get first in state, it’s our main goal. We’re going to keep working hard to get towards it.”
Right now the rainy weather might be the only thing slowing down the Dunlap Lady Eagles.
“We work really good with each other,” said Pauli.”Our mental toughness is there. It’s great. We work good together but it’s early.”
