Emma Argo comes into the state cross country meet as one of the runners to watch Saturday.
She’s the defending class 1A state champ.
“There’s a target on my back, I feel that pressure,” Argo said.
But nobody puts more pressure on Emma Argo than Emma Argo. She’s a straight A student, a class officer, a student that planned Homecoming and a member of Eureka High School’s marching band.
Her fall weekends are crazy.
“I march on Friday night for the football game, run a race in the morning and then Saturday evening have a band competition,” Argo said. “Going all over with both activities. I like being involved in both.”
Her head coach thinks Argo’s busy schedule has helped make her a better runner.
“She excels at a very high level,” said Eureka cross country coach Olivia Morris. “If she’s not doing something, not getting the grades or the marks she wants, she fixes it.”
She’s so active, she’s hard to catch at Eureka. Saturday, she hopes she’s hard to catch at Detweiller Park.
“All year this has been on my mind. I’m super excited about when I am at,” said Argo.”I’ve been gaining confidence throughout the season. It’s gone well.”
