Midwest Central seniors Alexis Lee and Maddie Singley are teammates on the Raiders softball team… But also share a unique attendance record. Neither has missed a single day of school since the beginning of sixth grade.
“In middle school, it was more of like, I was driving towards I really wanted that plaque, I wanted to be recognized at graduation,” Maddie Singley said. “But now its like, I really don’t like making up work.”
Both Alexis and Maddie play multiple varsity sports at Midwest Central. Juggling school and sports is a challenge for every student athlete.
“It’s a lot of work, a lot of responsibility. you have to keep up your grades to be able to play softball, or basketball, or whatever sport you play,” Alexis Lee said. “Its actually really fun in the end, too.”
Alexis wants to become a surgeon in the military, while Maddie hopes to be a radiation therapist… They’ve been getting hands on experience for their futures. They’re taking a CNA training course through Illinois Central College.
“We had class time, and then we had five weeks of clinicals,” Singley said. “So we went to Pekin Manor, and we’re going there and learning all these new things for the future. And its a lot of fun.”
Even though they will attend different colleges, Alexis and Maddie say the dedication they learned growing up will keep their freindship strong… There’s certainly a lot to look forward to for this dynamic duo from Midwest Central.
