Extra Effort: Princeville Standout Athlete Also Shows Goats

PRINCEVILLE. Ill. — When she steps on to the volleyball court, Ashleigh Brawley admits she comes out of her shy shell.

“I think my more aggressive side, confident side comes out,” Brawley said. “You get the perfect set and slam it down. I go for it on the court.”

But the Princeville junior isn’t only going for it on the volleyball floor. She also plays basketball and runs track.

She has a straight A grade point average, plays trombone in the marching band and loves being a member of the school art club.

“I really like painting. I see hat other people do and I try to do it in my own way,” said Brawley. “It’s a creative outlet for me.”

Her coach marvels at Brawley’s schedule.

“I don’t know how she sleeps,” said Princeville head volleyball coach Charissa Ouart. “She’s in so many clubs, a three-sport athlete. Most of all the 4.0 student. Pretty impressive I’d say.”

As if being a three-sport athlete with a perfect grade point average and dabbling in art isn’t enough. Brawley also loves to show her goats and chickens.

She does that at county fairs.

“You never get used to losing, it happens. But when you are painting or showing, you don’t lose,” Brawley said. “You have experiences I really like that part of it. Everybody can be good at it.”
