Hanna Evans Rewriting IVC Softball Record Book

Junior Having Record Spring For Pitcher

CHILLICOTHE, Ill. - Hanna Evans likes to set the tone for a softball game.

Last year, she batted last in the IVC High School lineup. This year, she hits leadoff.

"Starting off the game with all the energy, it's really nice. Sometimes hitting ninth, they don't expect you to do well, at the bottom of the order," Evans said. "It's kind of a nice change."

But where she really sets the tone is in the pitching circle.

Evans set school records with an 18-strikeout game and a 19-strikeout game this season. She says challenges herself with different ways to get hitters out.

"When it's an 0-2 count, I try and do a movement pitch out of the zone," Evans said. "I try and
challenge myself and make it move enough to make them swing."

Evans is chasing IVC's single-season strikeout record of 260. She's 15 strikeouts shy of it.

Not bad for a player who wasn't convinced pitching could be her thing when she entered high school three years ago.

"There was no confidence, honestly," Evans said. "I thought I'd sit (on thee bench) a lot, I started most games in the outfield. I was promised one varsity game to pitch. I had never pitched a JV game."

She's now first in the batting order. And soon-to-be first on many of IVC's pitching records.
