MiKyle McIntosh scored 20 points and the Illinois State defense delivered a standout performance in the Redbirds’ 76-62 win over Wichita State at Redbird Arena Saturday. Illinois State (14-4, 6-0) is alone atop the Missouri Valley standings for the first time since 1998, which was current head coach Dan Muller’s senior season.
Five Redbirds finished in double figures, and ISU closed out both halves convincingly in front of over 9,000 fans. Illinois State shot 54 percent from the floor, making 10 of 22 from beyond the arc. Paris Lee’s last-minute alley-oop to McIntosh provided the exclamation point for the Redbirds’ second straight home win over the Shockers.
After losing his first seven meetings with Wichita State, head coach Dan Muller has now won three of his last four, dating back to the 2015 Missouri Valley Tournament.
ISU plays next at I-74 rival Bradley (8-11, 3-3 MVC) Wednesday at 8 pm.
