IWU Softball Hungry For Another Shot At Glory

National runner-up a year ago, the Illinois Wesleyan softball team enters this year’s postseason hungry for another shot at a national title.

“Postseason is now very close, but it’s always been at the right front of our minds, even though we’re trying to take one game at a time,” said Illinois Wesleyan senior Jill Runyon. “We want to have another good postseason run, it’s important to us.”

For a second year in a row, Illinois Wesleyan has won the CCIW regular season championship. Now as the conference tournament approaches, the Titans are motivated to make some more postseason magic. Last year, this team was one win away from a national championship, something they are motivated by.

“Some of it’s luck, a lot of it’s talent. I definetly think it left a lot of hunger in a lot of peoples eyes,” said Illinois Wesleyan junior Ally Wiegand. “You know, you bring it to game three and then you come short by one. So it was a little bitter.”

“Obviously we have last year’s experience to lean on upon, but this year is a new year,” said Illinois Wesleyan head coach Tiffany Prager. “And so we have some different people stepping up this year which is a great opportunity for growth. And we’re super excited for what lies ahead.”

With a good blend of established veterans and fresh faces making an impact, the Titans are prepared for another chance at hardware. They know it will be a challenge to get back to the College World Series, but they hope to win just one more game than last season.

“I think we can do it, but I definetly wouldnt say that if something does happen this postseason and it doesn’t work out for us, I wouldn’t consider it a bad mark on our program,” said Runyon. “But we hope we can have another good postseason run and really go out with a bang.”
