CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WMBD) — For the second year in a row, the Metamora Redbirds are playing in the Illinois High School Associations State Championship Finals.
It was a rough start for the Redbirds, but Metamora Township High School pulled ahead of East St. Louis in the Class 3A state semifinals in Champaign Friday. Metamora beat East St. Louis 50-43.
Metamore Principal Charlie Zimmerman said the community fans are one of the best parts of the game.
“This is what it’s all about for us. It’s all about the community, the community is here supporting our kids, supporting our coaches, it’s all a community effort,” Zimmerman said.
They will play in the Class 3A state championship game against Simeon Saturday.
